Iroquois Spoken Constitution
The five Iroquois tribes had an unwritten constitution as early as the year 1590. They had a system not unlike Britain's Parliament where representatives called sachems would meet in one of two houses. The Carolinas Split
Previously, there was one colony: Carolina. They were split apart from all the discontented people (discontented because people from the northern colonies were looking down upon them) gathering in the north of the region. -
Washington's Family is Successful

A Royal Proclamation
The royal proclamation of 1763 was supposed to surpress the settlements that Britain wouldn't be able to control. When settlers had more land, the British weren't able to keep enough authoratative posts. Anislavery Society
Founded by Quaker Pensylvanians, there were thirteen clubs demoting slavery, mainly in the north. Some places even banned slavery because, frankly, they didn't rely on it. The Declaration of Independence
This was the beginning of American freedom. It was a document proclaiming that America was seperate from Britain. It declaires, furthermore, that all men are created equal, a big thing to say in the time period. http://www.ushistory.org/us/13a.asp -
Washington Elected President
After being elected as presiding officer in 1787, George Washington was elected the first preasident of the United States in 1789. He recieved "almost universal support"

Creation of the Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney created a machine to get the seeds out of cotton. It had brushlike teeth that got most of the seeds out. This took very little time and produced high quality cotton. http://www.ushistory.org/us/27a.asp -
The Election of 1800
John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were the candidates in this important and remembered election of 1800. The two opposing sides were the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. The first wanted more authority while the latter wanted less. http://www.ushistory.org/us/20a.asp -
Lowell, MA Opens
Lowell was a mill town where low-pay female factory workers earned their wages. Pay and conditions were horrible and there were often strikes. However, such factory towns greatly expanded America's "widespread impact."

Andrew Jackson Elected President
Jackson won he election of 1828, having recieved 70% of votes. He won the votes due to being a success story, from a modest family to beoming successful. However, what he would do as president would not be all that appealing. http://www.ushistory.org/us/23f.asp -
From the Declaration
David Walker vied for the rights of black Americans. He asked "do you understand your own language" to white Americans who claimed that African Americans couldn't have equal rights. The Declaration of Independence clearly states that "all men are created equal" http://www.ushistory.org/us/13a.asp -
1200 Newspapers
By 1835 there were 1200 newspapers writing in the nation. As a part leader, Martin Van Buren used newspapers in his favor. The Beginning of the Mexican-American War

Gold is Found in CA
There were many reasons people decided to move west as soon as land became available there. Many wanted to Christianize Naative American who were considered heathens. Others wanted to get rich from fur trade. Even more were attracted by the amunt of gold found in California in 1848. Garrison Burns the Constitution
William Lloyd Garrison was the founder of the New England Anti-Slavory Society and a strong-minded writer of "The Liberator". In 1854 he burned a copy of the constitution, claming that it allowed slavery and was therefore unacceptable. http://www.ushistory.org/us/28a.asp -
200 People Dead in Kansas
The Pottawatomie Massacre enraged people. A guerilla war began in Kansas and over 200 people wwere killed. Government troops couldn't stop it. This was a precurser to the civil war which would happen 5 years later. http://www.ushistory.org/us/31d.asp -
Civil War Begins
South Carolina withdrew from the Union on this day. Days later, South Carolina's troops withdrew to Fort Sumter which the people believed belonged to the new confederacy. Months later, this is where the civil war would begin. http://www.ushistory.org/us/33a.asp -
Johnson Degrades African Americans
Andrew Johnson became president after the assasination of President Lincoln. He strongly believed that blacks were inferior and didn't deserve rights, especially not to vote. Under his laws, many African Americans were forced into slavery-like situations. http://www.ushistory.org/us/35a.asp -
Withdrawal of Union Troops
There were many things around this time that tried to diminish African American rights. This included the formation of the Ku Klux Klan and the Withdrawal of Union Troops. http://www.ushistory.org/us/35.asp
