Columbus Finds America
Columbus began his voyage on August 3, 1492. He set out with 3 ships: the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. He had a crew of men that were explorers. His goal was to sail west until he hit Asia, but instead landed on one of the islands in the Americas. -
13 Original Colonies
The thirteen colonies were founded during the time period between 1607 (Virginia) and 1733 (Georgia). These colonies were on the eastern coast and hosted people escaping for religious freedom and others who wanted westward expansion. Jameston was founded in Virginia. It was the first official settlement. -
French and Indian War
This war has also been called the "7 years war" because it lasted that many years (1754–1763). The war was between the British American colonies and the French. Various tribes of indians joined both sides of the war. The British ended up winning this war, but they still had a lot of problems to deal with. -
Industrial Revolution
The industrial revolution has no official start or end date but it started around 1760 and lasted until around 1840. The industrial revolution was the transition to a new manufacturing process. Many inventions were created in this time and many things were improved by new innovations. -
Boston Tea Party
The Bostton Tea Party was a political protest, done by the Sons of Liberty to challange the tea act and all of the taxes that were being forced upon the Americas. They boarded British cargo ships and dumped the tea into the water, showing their discontent as well as ruining the tea. -
Revolutionary War
This was the American war for indepedndence. The Americans had gotten sick of being ruled by Britain and following their unfair rules. The first battle of the Revolutionary War was the battle of Lexington and Concord. The Americans finally gained their freedom in 1783. -
Writing the Constitution
In Mayh 1787, the Constitutional Congress met again to address the issues of the Articles of Confederation and revise it and come up with better principles for the country. Some of the issues discussed were slavery, voting, "The Great Compromise", and how the government was to be run. -
Lewis and Clark
The Lewis and Clark expedition was the first expedition of its type to explore the west of America. Their job was to map the area as well as try to find a northwest passage. Although they couldn't find the passage, they made a lot of progress with maps, and their jornals. They recorded many types of plants and animals, giving new knowledge about the west. -
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise was where the state of Missouri wanted to join the Union as a slave state, but in doing so, would disrupt the balance of non-slave and slave states. They agreed to Missouri's request but they also admitted Maine as a free state. The compromise changedd a lot of things about slavery and was deemed unconstititional with the Dred Scott case. -
Bleeding Kansas
No exact start date on the Bleeding Kansas, but it started in 1854 and ended in 1861. This conflict was between anti-slavery states and pro-slavery states. It took place mainly in Kansas and the neighboring towns in Missouri. This was was to determine the position of slavery in the United States of America.
