Laika the space dog
On November 3, 1957, Sputnik 2 was launched with Laika, the space dog (being called the first living creature to orbit the earth) aboard on her suicidal mission to orbit the earth. Ham the Astrochimp
Ham, the astrochimp or code named "Number 65" was chosen from 40 other chips to attempt to orbit the earth. The similarities between chimps and human was the ideal choice for launching chimps to space.
