Jimmy Dorsey
Active 1920-1950. Genres included mainly Jazz also Big Band, Swing, & Dixieland. He was a member of different groups such as, The Dorsey Brothers, California Ramblers, Dorsey's Novelty Six, J. Carson McGee's King Trumpeters, & others. Dorsey was an accomplished reed player, specializing in the alto saxophone & clarinet. One of the top bandleaders of the swing era; he scored a series of hits establishing his orchestra as one of the most successful recording and preforming units of the early '40s. -
Billie Holiday
Active 1933-1959. Billie was a very famous vocalist. Famous for Jazz blues, vocal Jazz, R&B, swing, and blues. Also known as Lady Day. Her birth name was Eleanora Fagon. She was important because she was known as one of the best jazz vocalists of all time. She even made it to the Rock and roll hall of fame! I chose Billie Holiday because i listened to some of her songs while researching and she had an amazing voice with a good message. -
Berlin Olimpic Games
August 1st-16th, 1936. Officially known as the Games of the X1 Olympiad. First to be televised, and radio broadcasts which reached 41 countries. Hitler saw the games as an opportunity to promote his government and ideals of racial supremacy. I chose this topic because I like sports and honestly thought that's what it would be about. -
The night of the broken glass
Also known as Kristallnacht or Reichskrisallnacht. November 9th-19th, 1938, Nazi army violently attack and destroy Jewish property, killing at least 91 Jews and beating many others. An Un planned attack, set off mainly by German anger. Named "The Night of the Broken Glass" because of all of the destroyed businesses and shattered windows/glass. This topic is important because it marked the begging of the Holocaust. -
Nazi-Soviet Non Aggression Act
August 23rd, 1939. A Non aggression pact between Germany and the Soviet Union. The two countries agreed to take to military action against each other. Concluded only a few days prior to the beginning of WWII. I chose this topic because I found it interesting that two countries could just agree to not fight. -
