  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This proclamation did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. The British government feared the conflict between colonists and Native Americans would lead to another war. They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. CDolonists were enraged by this proclamation because they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the French and Indian war.

  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    To keep peace with his Native American allies King George kept 10,000 soldiers in Britian. He passed a law called the Quartering Acts. This act stated that colonists must house soldiers in order to save money and pay off their debts form the French and Indian war.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    In 1765 Parliament passed the Stamp Act. This Act required all legal and comercial documents to have an official stamp showing that the tax has been paid. Some documents that had to be stamped were diplomas, contracts, and newspapers.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Acts were a series of laws passed by parliament in 1767. This law suspendedall of New Yorks assembly. It also placed taxes on all items brought into the British colonies
  • Tea Act/ Boston Tea Party

    Tea Act/ Boston Tea Party
    During the tea act all the taxes except on tea were displaced. This angered the colonists because they could only buy tea from one company and on top of that they were still being taxed. This lead to the Boston Tea Party, where groups of men duisguised as Native Americans destroyed 342 chests of tea.

    Intolerable Acts
    In 1774 Parliament passed the Cohersive Acts to punish the Massachussetes colony and warn other colonies. these laws were so harsh that the colonists called the the Intolerable Acts. Some of the acts included closing down Bostons port, banning the comitte of corespondense, and allowing Britian to house troops werever nessacary.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battles of the Revolutionary war. On April 19 700 British troops reached Lexington. They found 70 militiamen standing in their way. Redcoats demanded that they dropped thair muskets but they refused. The first shot was fired and in a matter of minutes 8 militiamen were dead. The Redcoats then marched to Concord and destroyed military supplies.
  • Olive Branch Pettition

    Olive Branch Pettition
    On July 1775 people in Congress wrote the Olive Branch Pettition to restore peace with the king and Britian. The king rejected the pettition and wanted to punish the colonies even more. He used the Bristish Navy to block American ships from leaving their ports. He also sent 1000 Hessians to fight the Americans.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was a documentwritten in 1776 in which the colonies declared freedom from Britian. Thomas Jefferson a political thinker from Viginia wrote this document. On July 4, 1776 the congress adopted the document. From that day forth all the colonists considered themselves independent.
