Boston Tea Party
British colonists got mad about all the new taxes that Great Britain gave them so, a group of people dressed up as indians and threw three shiploads of tea into Boston Harbor. This was one of the major events that led to the Revolutionary War. The people in the British colonies in America were against "taxation without representation." Without this I don't think that the colonist would ever stood up to the British. -
Draft of the D.O.I.
A year after the American Revolution in 1776, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Roger Sherman and Robert Livingston made a draft of the Declaration of Independence. This is an important document, and it showed the colonists’ independence from the British monarchy. This Decloration has become a very important template for other democracies, and to this date it protects us from unfairness and undo interventions. -
The Constitution
The Constitution was written and approved to establish the U.S. Fedral Government. It established the 3 branches of the goverment: executive, judicial, and legislative. The Constitution also contains the Bill of Rights, which grants certain rights to U.S. citizens. It is the framework of the United States, it outlines important thing like freedom of speech, all people created equal, and the right to vote. -
Civil War
In 1861 the Civil War occurred for several reasons. The reason mentioned by many people was slavery,but economic reasons were as important. This is the first and only time when states and relatives fought each other. It is important to note that at the end of the war slavery was officially abolished in the United States. This war has taught us that we should not treat people as pets/slaves. -
World War 1
World War I started in Europe in 1914, but the United States did not join the fighting until 1917. World War 1 involved 2 opposing alliances - the Allies and the Central Powers. Several European empires clashed due to different policies. It is important to know that during World War 1 a lot of new technology was created. During that time woman got rights to work, to vote, and to serve in the army. At the end of this war the empires of Europe were dissolved. -
World War 2
December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor, an Naval Base in Hawaii, got attacked by Japanese because they didn't want the U.S. to effect and get in the way of their Millitary. This attack pushed the United States to join the allied forces. The importance of WW2 is that it stop the spread of dictatorships in Asia and Europe. It started the use of atomic energy for weapons. civilian use.It also showed the importants of creating the United Nations. -
Korean War
The Korean War started in 1950 and lasted until 1953. It was a war between the North and the South of Korea. U.S. troops supported the Republic of Korea in this war. This war was the beginning of the Cold War, and a vehicle for hostilities between the U.S. and Soviet Union. It will test the influence of the United Nation. -
Vietnam War
This war started when communist forces started guerrilla war to get freedom from France. The United Nations divided the country North and South Vietnam. The U.S. got involed in 1960 when the North attcked the South. This war started a strong antiwar movement that changed the US in many ways. Yet it stopped the communist and later Vietnam and China became some of the top economic partners of the US. -
Persian Gulf War
In 1990 Iraqi forces invaded Kwait under the excuess that oil fills belonged to Iraq. The United States and the United Nations asked Iraq to returned to thier borders. They refused and United Nation forces( Coallition forces) led by the U.S. pushed the Iraqi forces back to thier borders. This is the first time that the United Nations and the U.S. used major combat forces in the middleast. Coallition forces included Islamic countries that supported the United Nation. -
9/11
Terroist hijacked 4 different planes. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers in New York City, one was flown into the Pentagon, and the forth was crashed in Shanksville, near Pitsburg. This is the first time mainland U.S. has been attacked by foreign enemies and thousands of innocent people were killed in matter of minutes. This has now impacted our foreign policies and changed our Homeland Security.
