Founded in 1791, led by Alexander Hamilton. Supported strong centralized government. -
Democratic-Republicans
Founded in 1792, led by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Heavily opposed Hamilton's party of Federalists, did not want too much power in one place. -
Jacksonian Democrats
Led by Andrew Jackson, opposed aristocracy heavily. Didn't want to be like the countries they used to be around. -
The Party of Lincoln
Wanted to keep the United States all together, sided with Union in Civil War. Emancipation Proclamation and other ideas put in to action to rid slavery. -
Modern Republicans
Initially founded in 1854, currently supports lower taxes, gun rights, national defense and capitalism -
Modern Democrats
Initially founded in 1828, currently support social equality, voting rights, minority rights, abolishing 1%
