  • Anti Federalists Party

    Founded in 1793, opposed strong central government, didn't want there to be anything close to a branch with absolute power.
  • Federalist Party

    Founded in 1791, led by Alexander Hamilton. Supported strong centralized government.
  • Democratic-Republicans

    Founded in 1792, led by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Heavily opposed Hamilton's party of Federalists, did not want too much power in one place.
  • Jacksonian Democrats

    Led by Andrew Jackson, opposed aristocracy heavily. Didn't want to be like the countries they used to be around.
  • The Party of Lincoln

    Wanted to keep the United States all together, sided with Union in Civil War. Emancipation Proclamation and other ideas put in to action to rid slavery.
  • Modern Republicans

    Initially founded in 1854, currently supports lower taxes, gun rights, national defense and capitalism
  • Modern Democrats

    Initially founded in 1828, currently support social equality, voting rights, minority rights, abolishing 1%
