Magna Carta
This charter is very important in American history because it was the first tp be presented to a king of England in order to try and limit his power and to protect thier rights. It led to constitutional law in the english speaking world. -
Virginia House of Burgesses
This was the first legislative assembly of the elected representitives in North America. They tried to use this to convince others to live in North America. They tried to make good conditions so that more people would come. -
Mayflower Compact
A document of Plymoth Colony, created to flee religious prosicution from King James of Great Brittan. Leading them to leave on the ship the Mayflower to explore the new land. -
English Bill of Rights
This document mayed limits on the rulers and set our rights of parlament and our freedom of speech withing parlament. It gave freedom of speech, the ability to use arms in defence, and allowed them to use the democratic process. -
French and Indian War
A war between the colonies of New France and British America over territory in North America. Both Countrys wanted to trade with the indians causing them to get into fights over their territorys. -
Stamp Act
This was an act where they put a tax on all paper products going to Brithish america, They said that they did this to pay for the soilders that they had stationed in the North Americas. -
Boston Tea Party
This event was a rebellious act on the tax of tea against the British colonies and the east india company, After oficials in Boston refused to return the tea, the colonists went aboard the ship and tossed all the crates over board. -
First Continental Congress
This as a confrence called togeather to discuss the intolerable acts that had punished Boston for the Boston Tea Party. The intolerable acts closed down the Boston Harbor and gave more power to the governor of Massachusetts. -
Lexington and Concord
This was the first militarry engagements of the American Revolutionary War. The British army marched up from Boston to lexington and concord and there, they confronted the american militas. -
Second Continental Congress
This was a convention of the 13 colonies in whitch they started to adop independence and started to create the Declaration of Independence. They also managed the colonial war effort. -
Declaration of Independence
This document stated that the 13 colonies were now independent and were no longer a part of the British empire. This formed the new nation of the United States of America. -
articles of confederation
Was considered the first constitution. This was pretty much the base for the final constitution. they later found the weak spots and edited it to create a stronger constitution. -
Peace Treaty with Great Britian
Also Known as the Treaty of Paris. This treaty ended the American Revolutionary war. -
Shay's Rebellion
shay's rebellion is known as a series of protests from farmers complainign about the poor economy, taxes, bad harvests, and the loss of their farms. -
constitutional convention
This convention originally started to revise the articles of confederation, but instead led to the creation of a new kind of government, thus creating the united States Constitution. -
virginia plan
Stated the agenda for the next convention, and most importantly showed ideas of creating a population weighted representation. -
New Jersey Plan
a proposal introduced at the constitutional convention by william patterson. This propsal was a response to the virginia plan, changing the idea of state population to one vote per state. -
3/5 compromise
This was a compromise between the northern and souther states alowing 3/5 of the slave population to count for representation purposes. -
Connecticut Compromise
defined the legislative structure and reresentation that each state would have. -
commerce/slave trade compromise
the southern and northeners did not agree apon the tarriffs causing this compromise. This allows the governmet to tax imports but not exports. -
The Bill of Rights
the first 10 amentdments of the united states. Protects and specifies peoples rights. -
Rhode Island Ratifies
rhode island objected to the constitution, possibly because of the farmers in the state.
