First "free school" in Virginia opens. This is important as this is what gave people the freedom/right to go to school.

Harvard College

First higher education institution in what is now the United States, is now in Massachusetts. This gave people the right and freedom to get a higher education and give them more opportunities than what they had before. Right now is considered one of the most "prestigious" schools.

Common Schools Movement

It was the effort to fund schools in every community with public dollars. This gave ALL students the right and freedom to go to school to get an education. Everyone should get the opportunity to get an education and this allowed them to do that.

Brown Vs Board of Education

May 17, 1954

This law established racial segregation in public schools are unconstitutional, even if the segregated schools are otherwise equal in quality. This allowed everyone to have the freedom and rights as anyone else in schools. It is important that EVERYONE is treated equally no matter your race.

National Defense Education Act

Sep 2, 1958

It became one of the most successful legislative initiatives in higher education. It allowed students to purchase loans to be able to get a higher education. Everyone should be able to get the right and freedom to go on and get a higher education. This allowed students to do that.

Head Start Program

1965

First launched as an eight week summer program that was designed to help break the cycle of poverty by providing preschool children from low-income families a comprehensive program to meet their health, nutritional, emotional, psychological, and social needs. This gave any child the right and freedom to go to school and deal with any issues at hand that they may have had.
