    U.S. Civil War Part 1
    This war was between the Northern states and the Southern states. The main conflict was that the Union states were beginning to worry that the Confederates states would gain unequal amount of power because of their large slave population. Since the North had abolished Slavery and were more of a manufacturing center their main concern was that the southern states, that were mostly comprised of plantations, would cause an economic problem in the future and they would be too powerful.

    Of course this war took place in the plains of our own country because it was a civil war. The state that first broke off, when Abraham Lincoln became president, was South Carolina then came the states of Arkansas, Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi. The War Started when P.T, fired upon Fort Sumter which belonged to South Carolina and that was the start to the U.S. Civil War .

    It lasted about 4 years and a grand total of about 600,000 soldiers were killed. Both sides won some and lost some battles but the turning point was in mid September when the North took Atlanta and gave them an advantage and finally the war ended on April 9, 1865 in the battle of Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia where the Union took their last main victory.

  • Spanish American War Part 1

    Spanish American War Part 1
    The Spanish American war started because the U.S, thought that the explosion of the USS Maine in the Havana Harbor, which killed 266 American soldiers, was caused by the Spanish. The U.S. thought that the Spanish had sabotaged the ship in some way causing the ship to explode. At this time Cuba had belonged to Spain and the United States demanded they give Cuba their independence. Spain refused so the president headed to congress to ask them to declare war because he didn't feel safe.

    Congress approved McKinley's request and America went to war. Theodore Roosevelt was the assistant secretary of the U.S. navy and formed a military group called the "Rough Riders" which in turn resulted in the defeat of Cuba from the Spaniards. Roosevelt also assisted in the quite taking of the Philippines where the soldiers took the Spanish by surprise and the Philippines were seceded to the United States. It was later discovered that the explosion was an accident caused in the boiler room.

    There is a constant debate on what really caused WWI and they were because of the alliances, imperialism, militarism, nationalism,and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.The defense alliances were vowed to each other and if anyone attacked they would have to step in to defend them.Imperialism caused the WW because there was such a demand for the desire of greater and more powerful empires. Also the increase in arms race divide nations and that played a big part in the starting of WWI.

    Another reason why WWI started was each nations wanting to prove themselves in being dominant. For Example the Bosnia people no longer wanted to be part of Austria Hungary and wanted to be part of Serbia. This created nationalism of many countries and added to the immediate cause of the first World War.

    Finally the last and the most immediate caused of WWI was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand who was from Austria Hungary. His assassination was the result of a Serbian nationalist killed him in protest of him being in charge of the Serbian area. This action caused Austria Hungary to declare war on Serbia which caused Russia to step in because they were allies of Serbia meaning everyone else would get involved because of this mobilization.

    The influenza pandemic affected the world as a whole in 1918 and it killed about 50million people. This virus spread like wildfire and claimed the lives of about one fourth of the people living in the United States. The virus was so quick to kill that it did not give scientist an opportunity to study it and people were dying and dropping like flies. At this time the life expectancy age dropped about 12 years and went down in the history books as a major disaster.

    This War was supposed to be "the war to end all wars" and finally ended after the armistice came and to shape on the eleventh of November 1918. The tables were now turn and there was a direct shift in social order because of the war. Nearly 750,000 people lost their lives and many more died from pandemics and starvation after. There was also a new world power on the rise, the United States.

    WWII mostly started as a territorial dispute between Poland and Germany. Poland had been taken away from Germany during the first WW and Germany wanted to take Poland back Britain and France declared war in 1939 on Germany because they wanted to keep the polish freedom. also in 1939 Germany made peace with Russia mainly because they did not want a double front war and they decided to split Poland in half. It was all about expansion because Germany wanted what had been taken from them.

    The actual event that caused the U.S. to enter the war was the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The Japanese were furious because America was not trade gas and iron which was there main power supply only because they were at war with China. The united states also froze all assets and Japan saw this as an attack on them and they felt like they had to strike back. More than 2,400 lives were lost at Pearl Harbor during this attack.

    The U.S. did not agree with communism but knew that is was a problem around the world. A way that the united states learn to deal with this problem was by segregating the problem so it wouldn't spread and leak over to other territories. The 38th parallel was the point where Korea was split into north communist and south non communist territory. Some people did not agree with this divide so in 1950 the north invaded the south.

    When the north Koreans attack on the south Truman sent troops over to Korea to aid in the battle because if he didn't help communism would take over another region of the world. The U.S. fought the north Korean forces and almost reached the Chinese border but then they got involved and were pushed back to the 38 parallel. It was constant battle until finally a ceasefire was officially declared because no increase in territory was being done for the U.S. so it was a stalemate.
