Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was created to limit the power of the monarchy and protect people form the arbitrary acts of the king. The people forced King John to sign it in june of 1215. This event was key to the idea of a limited government. -
Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower compact was signed by 41 men coming to the New World who wanted to prevent desent from the puritans and other pilgrims. This was the first form of government in the United States. This is a key event in the idea of a limited government. -

Albany Plan of Union
The Albany plan o fUnion was a plan presesented by representatives from seven of the British colonies. It was the first idea that united the colonies as a whole instead of small parts. This plan was a key idea for the revolution against England. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a tax placed on American colonists every time they wanted to use printed paper. This made colonist angry because the tax was only made to raise money for the British and was not approved by the colonies. This lead to the idea of limiting government. -
Stamp Act Congress
A meeting of representatives from the 13 colonies in New York concerning the new stanp act law. Colonists were angry and they united to try and fix it. This lead to the revolution. -
Declaration of RIghts and Grievances
The declaration of rights and grievances was written by the stamp act congress and it declared that the Stamp Act was unconstitutional. This was a key event in the revolution. -
Boston Tea Party
A a group of Massechusetts Patriots got angy because the the new tea act allowin gthe East India company to sell tea in the colonies without the regular taxation. This took away from colony sales and so the patriots rioted and through tea inot the Boston Harbor. THe was a key point on the road to the revolution. -
Intolerable Acts
Group of laws passed by English government to punish the colonists. THis event made the colonist extremely angry and lead to the revolution. -
First Condenental Congress
Representative from each colony except for Georgia unified to talk about something that they could do abou the British government. They were untied under the idea that they were not being treated fairly. This was a key event for the revolution and limiting government. -
Second Continental Congress
The second continental congress started meeting shortly after the Revolutionary War began. They adopted the Declaration of Independence. The second continental congress played a big role in limiting governmetn and the revolution. -
Declaration of Independence
THe Declaration of Independence was announced by the continental congress and it stated that the 13 colonies regarded themselves as independant states and no longer apart of the English Empire. This was a key event in the revolution.
