Claudius Ptolemy - The Geocentric Theory
Ptolemy proposed the geocentric theory, a theory that states that the universe is Earth-centered. He thought that the planets, the Moon, the Sun and the stars orbited the Earth. Ptolemy's theory was prevalent for 1400 years. The Geocentric Theory had a great impact and significance in that time because it was the first explanation about the motion of planets and other objects in the solar system. -

Isaac Newton - Gravity
Isaac Newton created a law of universal gravitation with which he could explain that there was a force exerted by Earth towards the Moon that prevented the Moon from moving in a straight line and made the Moon move in a circular motion instead. Newton realized that the force that caused the Moon’s circular motion was the same as the one that pulled things in Earth downwards. With this idea, he also figured out the amount of force used for two objects to attract.
