Proclamation
This proclamation did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Moustains. The British government feared the conflict between colonists and Native Americans would lead to another war. They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclamation becase they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the French and Indian War. -

Quartering Act
The Quartering Act was passed by the Parliament and it required the colonies to house British soldiers. This was caused by King George III trying to enforce the proclamation and to keep peace with Britian's Native American allies. This act didn't cause much tension, but colonists were annoyed. -
Stamp Act
Stamp Act requried all documents had to carry a stamp to show the tax was paid. This applied for all the colonists. This caused some tension with colonial leaders. -
Townshend Act
Charlies Townshend told Parliament that he had a way to raise revenue. Consiquently, Parliament passed the Townshend Acts. This placed duties or import taxes on glass, paint, lead, tea, and other goods. -
Tea Act / Boston Tea Party
The Parliament decided to repeal the Townshend Acts, except for the tax on tea. Resulting in the Tea Act, which: gives Britian control over tea trade and colonists still had to pay. This resulted in the Boston Tea Party, which was when men disguised as Native Americans and boarded three tea ships and destroyed 342 chests of tea. -
Intolerable Acts
Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts to punish the Massachusetts colony and to warn the colonists. Intolerable Acts included: closing port of Boston until colonists paid for destroyed tea, ban comittees, allow Britian to house troops wherever, and allow Britian officials accused of crimes to stand trial in Britian stand trial in Britian. This caused delegates to be sent to the First Continental Congress. -
Olive Branch Petition
The Olive Branch Petition was a document that asked the king to restore peace between Britian and the colonies. The king rejected the petetion and sent out punishments for the colonies. Their last hope for escape had gone, until the Declaration of Independence. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
700 British troops are sent to Lexington and are met by 70 militamen. Fight begins with "the shot heard around the world" and 8 militamen were dead. British troops march to Concord and destroy supplies, causing a fight with militamen and minutemen at Concord. This was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. -
Declaration of Independence
Richard Henry Lee intorduces a solution that calls for the colonies to "break up" with Britian. Committee decides that Thomas Jefferson is to write the Declaration of Independence. July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence. This meant the colonies were considered independent.
