THIS PROCLAMATION DID NOT ALLOW COLONISTS TO SETTLE WEST OF THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS. THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT FEARED THE CONFLICT BETWEEN COLONISTS AND NATIVE AMERICANS WOULD LEAD TO ANOTHER WAR. THEY ALSO COULD NOT AFFORD TO PAY BRITISH TROOPS TO DEFEND THE WESTERN LANDS.
