President Buchanan delivers his State of the Union
President Buchanan states to Congress that the slave states are sovereign and their rights cannot be interfered with, so they should be left alone. The interference of northerners into the affairs of southerners has caused the present crisis. -

The confederates attacked Fort Sumter and President Lincoln refused to surrender, so all he did was sent food to the troops. -

After the surrender of Fort Sumter lincoln gets agervated and instates 75,000 volunteers to fight on the Union side against the Confederates. -

McClellan ignores Lincoln
Lincoln tells the first General War Order, telling all larmy and navy forces to attack. McClellan igornes this, but because of his family and backroung Lincoln could not proparly punish and kick him out of the military. -
Greenbacks
This was a form of paper money introduced by Lincoln. This money was distributed longer then any other money. -
Battle of Shiloh
Shiloh is a small church that was battled at for about 2 days. the Union came out victorious. -
Conscription
Jefferson Davis and the Confederate Congress approve the conscription act. This calls forward any white male ages 18 to 35 to fight for the confederate army. -

Lee takes command of the confederate army in richmond after a vote. Lee is the best man for the job being that he actually was the only one that had a military backround. -
African Americans in the Military
The Union army is officially allowed to hire African Americans as laborers.They are one step closer to becoming equal. The slaves are now allowed to help in the army that is being fought to free them. -
Internal Revenue Law
Internal Revenue Law gave the government funds to use towards the civil war. It put a tax on inheritance, tobacco, and incomes over $600. -
Antietam
The battle of Antietam is the bloodiest single day battle in American history. Neither side won the battle! But the Confederate retreat during the battle made it a victory in Lincoln's eyes! The battle ended in a loss of 110 men. -
Emancipation
Lincoln's plan for Emancipation is published in the Union newspapers. This gives the slaves hope for their freedom and even more of a reason behind the war. -
Battle of Fredericksburg
The battle of Fredricksburg was fought between Robert E. Lee of the confederates and Union Army of the Potomac, commanded by Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside. Union took double the deaths of the confederates! -
Emancipation Proclamation
Lincoln signs the Emancipation Proclamation and officially frees 3.1 million of the southoners slaves. This document only freed slaves that were not under Union control but allowed them to serve in the Union army. -
National Banking Act
Lincoln signed the National Banking Act, making it into a law. It put a secretary of treasury in charge of controlling currency and it wound up leading to the creation of local banks. -
Richmond riots!
The riots started basically because the women could no longer cook for there family, because there was no more bread being sold or produced! -
Gettysburg
This is the largest battle of the Civil War, on a field in Gettysburg, Pennyslvania. General Meade's of the union manage to force lee's confederate military to turn back. There were 28,000 Confederate casualties and 23,000 Union casualties. Union Victory. Turning point of the war! After this battle the confederates never fought a battle on the northern territory! -
Lee Resigns
after lee's defeat at Gettysburg, General Lee sends a letter of resignation to Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Davis refuses the request. -
Lawrence
This battle ttakes place in Lawrence, Kansas, raiders kill over 200 men and boys. The north views this as a brutal savage incident! -
Battle of Chancellorsville
This battle - May 1st to May 4th,resulting in a Confederate victory.Union casualties were 17,500 men and the Confederate casualties were 13,000. Stonewall jackson died, HUGE confederate loss!!! -
The Gettysburg Address
This speech was a dedication speech for the men who had lost there lives at gettysburg. The address is about 3 minutes long when the military was expecting about a 2 hour speech! After the speech, the north felt there was meaning to the war! Moral was instintly raised! -

John Hunt Morgan, a confederate calvary leader, and some of his men escape the Ohio state prison. When they get back morgan returns to his duites. Later in the war he is killed by the Union army. -

Prision camp with held by the Confederates, The Confederates took the first 500 Civil war prisioners to the camp and almost all of them died due to harsh conditions! -
