    The Eastern front was held by the unprepared Russian army. This front saw the most casualties and the first use of deadly mustard gas. This battle was mostly fought between Russia and Germany. this front was easier to break because it moved more and was longer.

    BATTLE OF TANNENBERG
    The Battle of Tannenberg started on August 26 and ended on August 30, 1914, during World War I It was against Germany and Russia and resulted in the decisive defeat and near-total destruction of the Russian Second Army, with around 30,000 casualties and 92,000 captured troops. This victory boosted German morale, and significantly slowed down Russian advancements on the Eastern Front early in the war.

    The Battle of the Marne happened from September 6th to September 12th, 1914, close to the Marne River in France, French and British armies had managed to stop the German troops who were trying to get to Paris. This battle stopped the German plan to quickly win the war and made the fighting in the Western Front last longer.

The primary reason for its commencement was the British desire to secure english channel ports and British army's supply lines.Ypres was completely destroyed in battle and had to be rebuilt.

    The Christmas truce was an unofficial ceasefire along the Western front around Christmas of 1914. It started from the Germans laying out lanterns along the edge of their trenches and carols breaking out.

    The Battle of Gallipoli, happened from Feb 19, 1915 to Jan 9,1916, was between British, French, Australian ect. against the Ottoman Empire. The battle is remembered for its severe conditions, significant casualties, and the eventual withdrawal of the allied forces. The allied forces suffered 250,000 casualties, including over 44,000 deaths, while the Ottoman Empire lost around 250,000 troops, with about 87,000 deaths.

    The Battle of Verdun started on February 21, 1916, and ended on December 18, 1916. It was fought between German and French troops and lasted for almost 10 months, resulting in about 400,000 deaths and about 800,000 wounded/missing soldiers from both sides. Neither the Germans nor the French clearly won the battle. However, the French managed to hold onto the city of Verdun.

The battle of Somme ended being one of the deadliest battles in history with well over one million casualties and 300,000 fatalities.

    America joined WWI on April 6th, 1917 the reason for this was the sinking of Lusitania (a civilian cruise ship) and Zimmerman telegram (intercepted message between Germany and Mexico)

    The battle of Passchendaele (3rd battle of Ypres) took place from July 31st- November 10, 1917. It was fought between the British and Allied forces against the Germans in Belgium. Despite gaining some ground the battle caused a lot of casualties and after several months of poor fighting conditions (heavy rain and mud) the Allied forces eventually secured the area they fought for.

    The Battle of Cambrai started in November 1917 and ended on December 6, 1917.The British used numerous tanks for the first time in battle, trying to surprise the Germans and break their defense lines. This was successful at first but after the germans regrouped the battle ended without a decisive winner.

After the war, Europe faced many challenges. some including millions of casualties, broken empires, changed borders, the addition of new nations, and world economic changes. Germany accepted responsibility and agreed to pay reparations of €6,600 million.
