Missouri Compromise
I chose this as an important event because it showed how the North and South both tried to equalize how slavery worked. I think in most time, America had always tried to equalize the good and the bad and therefore this is why the Missouri Compromise happened. The Missouri Compromise was the act of declaring Maine as a free state only if Missouri would become a slave state. -
Publication of the Liberator
The liberator was a type of journalism that the abolitionist would publicize about slavery. I think this made a big impact on the way slavery was handled. It was more religious than it was political. It expressed the ways abolitionist felt. This created more people believing slaves should be free and have equal rights. -
Nat Turner Rebellion
In this Rebellion, Nat Turner and others fought and killed 65 people. This would create a feeling for the slaves that their lives was unequal and they should fight for equality. It also showed the fierceness and rebel side of the slaves. This is an important event because it created that spark of fighting back. -
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass
I chose this as an important event because it showed more of the life of a slave and how Frederick went through all these things just to be free. It also encouraged many others to help slaves become free. As in more people become abolitionist. -
United States annexes Texas
This is an important event because like the Missouri Compromise, America had to create this plan to keep everything equal. Because of Texas wanting to be part of America, there was many fights about whether Texas should be free of a slave state. -
Mexican War
This is an important event because America wanted to make a treaty so they could get the land that Mexico had but since Mexico didn’t want to give to them, it created this whole problem.
