Firing on Ft. Sumter
Marks the first battle of the civil war; sets the stage of what is to come. Confederates open fire after refusing to aurrender. Doubleday is the first to return fire hours later; Anderson surrenders to the Confederacy the next day. In response Lincoln's calls in a malitia to put down the rebellion, which results in more states joining the confederacy. -
Emancipation Proclamation
Stated that all slaves are to be free from there on. It only applied to states that seceded from the union. Every fight after this in the civil war was to expand freedom, making the war become one for freedom.
