    Before it was created, labor conditions were very poor and there were very little restriction on what jobs and how many hours children could work. This fit progressive ideas because it made it more fair for kids who did not have representation.
  • Food Safety Practices

    Food Safety Practices
    Food safety practices in the meat processing industry are brought to the public’s attention by muckrakers such as Upton Sinclair, whose book The Jungle (1906) outraged and disgusted people. This led Congress to pass legislation on June 30 to help regulate food safety, including the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act, which passed on the same day. This fit progressive ideas because it made big cooperation accountable for the safety of the people.

    16th Amendment
    The 16th amendment granted Congress the authority to issue an income tax without having to determine it based on population. This fit progressive ideas because it made it more fair that everyone gets taxed.
  • 17th Amendment

    17th Amendment
    Allowed voters to cast direct votes for U.S. senators.Feb 8, 2022. This fit progressive ideas because it made people have a bigger vote in their representation.
  • Federal Reserve Act

    Federal Reserve Act
    The Federal Reserve Act created the Federal Reserve System to serve as the nation’s central bank. By mid-November 1914, twelve regional federal reserve banks were established and staffed. With their opening, the United States would set in motion a new currency system aimed at both strengthening and regulating the nation's currency and financial system. This fit progressive ideas because it felt the government was more involved and helped with keeping money.
  • Start of Great Migration

    Start of Great Migration
    The Great Migration was one of the largest movements of people in United States history. Approximately six million Black people moved from the American South to Northern, Midwestern, and Western states. They went looking for plentiful jobs in the industrialized north. This fit progressive ideas because it aloud more people of color to get into the workforce.
  • Creation of National Parks

    Creation of National Parks
    On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the act creating the National Park Service, a new federal bureau in the Department of the Interior responsible for protecting the 35 national parks and monuments then managed by the department and those yet to be established. This fit progressive ideas because it saved and preserved natural resources for future generations.
  • Harlem Renaissance

    Harlem Renaissance
    The New York City neighborhood of Harlem became a major cultural center for African Americans. Black artists, musicians, and writers based in Harlem created a social and artistic community, producing major works and challenging barriers created by Jim Crow. Prominent figures included Duke Ellington, Arna Bontemps, and Langston Hughes. This fit progressive ideas because it made black culture popular and brought light to racial issues.
  • 18th Amendment

    18th Amendment
    It prohibited the “manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors” in the United States. This did not fit progressive ideas because they felt it limited their freedoms and choices.
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    Granted women the right to vote. This fit progressive ideas because it made it more inclusive for women.
