In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to the Bahamas which he named San Salvador. He thought he landed in India however and called the natives living there Indians. -

First enslaved Africans arrive in the Americas
The Africans were needed to harvest sugar in the Americas for the Portuguese. They were also used as an alternative to Indians. The Africans had already been used as slaves and had developed some resistance to European diseases, so they were used. -

Cortés conquers Aztec Empire
Cortes conquered the Aztecs and takes over the city. He kills their ruler, Montezuma II. He also gained insane wealth from the Aztecs. -

Pizarro conquers Incan Empire
Pizarro, another conquistador, conquered the Incas in 1533. He killed their king, Atahualpa. But before, he ordered Atahualpa to fill a room with gold and 2 rooms with silver. He fufilled the requests, yet they still killed him. -
English found Jamestown
Jamestown was the first English permenant settlement. The colonists named Jamestown after their king, King James I. They harvested and grew tobacco as a cash crop. Some people were so focused on finding gold that they forgot to plant crops and almost starved. -
English found Plymouth
The Pilgrims, went on the ship the Mayflower to go to America. It eventually merged with Massachusetts Bay Colony. -
French and Indian War ends
The French and Indian war lasted for 7 years and was between the English and the French for Ohio Valley. The English were too strong and beat out the French though.
