French and Indian War
-This war was between the Europeans and the French.
-They fought over lan in the New World.
-George Washington started the war by defending the colonies from a French fort.
- This war lasted from 1754-1763 -
Treaty of Paris
-Britain claimed all land east of the Mississippi River.
-War was costly.
-Natives often attacked colonists.
-Colonists began to settle in the Ohio River. -
Proclamation of 1763
-This prevented colonists from moving est of the Appalachian Mountains.
- Europe didn't want to start conflict with the natives.
-This was the first time America and England had a conflict.
-The coclonists were not happy with England. -
Sugar Act
-This was the first British tax.
-It was placed on Clolonial goods to help pay off war debts.
-This aggitated the colonists, as they did not think that it was fair to tax them.
-Some colonists began to boycot goods with taxes on them. -
Stamp Act
-The second tax by England.
-It was put on papers such as legal documents, deeds, newspapers, e.t.c.
-The colonists began to boycot more of the british taxed goods.
- This worried colonists even more, and they even became angry. -
Quartering Act
- Colonists were forced to hold soldiers in thier homes and support them.
- British put soldiers in America in order to have better control over the colonies. -The colonists didn't like this, either and things were starting to build up. -The British were only afraid that the colonists might provoke the natives.

Writs of Assistance
-This act allowed the Biritich to search the colonists for samuggled items and more.
-This "writ of assistance" was a warrant saying soldiers could investigate in the homes of the colonists.
- This yet another rule enforced by Britain that provoked the colonists.
-Britain thought this would straighten things out and gain better control. -
Townshend Acts
- Britain wanted to raise money because of the cost of defending the colonies. -The colonists were outraged and acted poorly to these taxations -The British were forced to remove all taxes excpet for the tax on tea. -The British had to do this because the colonists were not buying any British goods.

Boston Massacre
-The colonists antagonized the british.
- The British acted in defiance and shot at them.
-John Adams was the attorney of the soldiers.
-Paul Revere mad an engraving of this event. -
Tea Act
-The British put taxes on tea.
-The colonists were not very happy about this.
-The colonists could only buy British tea.
- This took a lot of buisness away from the colonists. -
Boston Tea Party
-The colonists dressed as indians and threw British tea overboard.
-The colonists did this in act of defiance from the tea tax.(taxation without representation)
-The Sons of Liberty did this.
-In total, they dumped 90,00 pounds of tea overboard. -
1st Continental Congress
-They met to discuss the Intolerable Acts.
-They also met to form the Continental Army.
-They discussed that what Britain did was wrong, and that they should get Britain to change these laws.
-They also made a statement of colonial rights. -
Intolerable Acts
-This was Britain's way of dealing with the Boston Tea Party.
-They passed three new laws that they thought wold keep the colonists in line.
-The colonies united to puposely break the British's rules.
-This also expanded the Quartering Act. -
Lexington
-The first shots of the battle started here.
-They are not sure who shot first.
-Hundreds of British marched to Boston.
-Recognized as the beginning of the Revolution. -
Concord
-49 patriots were killed in total, while we won.
-Messangers went around to warn people about the British.
-The British retreated to Boston.
-This battle is linked to Lexington. -
2nd Continental Congress 1775
-Delegates met in Philadelphia.
-They discussed their plans next in the war.
-They elected Geoge Washington as Commander.
-This represented the 13 colonies. -
Ft. Ticonderoga
-Continental army captured Fort Ticonderoga.
-They had a surpise attack advantage, as the British were sleeping.
-The colonies won this event.
-Not a single shot was fired. -
Bunker Hill
-Prescott said "Dont shoot untill you see the whites of their eyes"
-The British won.
-It was fought on Breed's Hill.
-The British suffered major losses, and this et them back. -
Common Sense
-This was written by Thomas Pain.
-This was only a pamphlet, not even a book.
-This encouraged the colonists to go for Independence.
-This increased public support for freedom. -
Declaration of Independence
-This has a preamble, and opening staement.
-It says we the people have the right to govern.
-It also shows a list of greivances.
-It also says we willbe breaking away all connections with Britain. -
Battle of New York
-Washington and Howe were generals
-British attacked Washiingtons army.
-The colonies suffered hard casualties.
-Washington avoided capture. -
Battle of Trenton
-This was a big war for troops, as this was a motivation to continue in the army.
-We wont this battle.
-Not a single American was killed.
-We had a suprise attack advantage. -
Battle of Princeton
-Washington defeated the British.
-The Continental army was confident from Trenton.
-This put America on a winning streak.
-This brought down British slightly. -
Battle of Saratoga
-This is the turning point of the war.
-Benjamin Franklin was trying to make alliances in France.
-Spain and France joined our side.
-We won this great battle. -
Winter at Valley Forge
-Washington spend a long winter in Pennsylvania.
-Troops were longing for food and clothing.
-Many of Washington's men died.
-This occured because we lost major cities to British. -
Battle of Yorktown
-We won this battle with the help of the French.
-We cornered Britain on land near the ocean.
-Cornwallis moved his troops to Virginia
-American won their independence. -
Treaty of Paris
-U.s gained all land east of the Mississippi River.
-U.S returned all propety stollen from taken from loyalists.
-Britain recohnized U.S as an independent nation.
-This ended the war.
