  • Canada's Entry into WW1

    Canada's Entry into WW1
Prime Minister Borden declares, on behalf of Canada, that they would begin war with Germany and it's allies. This was the start of a long grueling war time with countless deaths and casualties. +2 +1 0 -1 -2 I would give this a -1 in progression of Canada simply because there were too many negatives to come with this war. Although there were negatives Canada furthered itself as a valuable ally which is why I wouldn't say it is a -2 on the progression scale.
  • Unemployment disappeared, 100's of 1000's of workers empolyed

Unemployment disappeared, 100's of 1000's of workers empolyed
In the time of the war unemployment seemed to have been a thing of the past. munitions factories were hiring 100,000+ workers to their factories. This is definitely a +2 for progression based on what no unemployment would be like for us, today. Imagine if there was no unemployment right now. The number of homeless people would drop dramatically. Plus, The economy would be booming with all the money going around.
  • French- Canadian soldiers could be promoted

French- Canadian soldiers could be promoted
After the French- Canadian Regiment, the 22nd battalion was formed allowing French- Canadian soldiers to be promoted within Canadian military. This is a +2 on the progression scale because Canada is learning that our diversity is a strength and we should be using it. Huge milestone!
  • Sam Hughes and his "news cast"

Sam Hughes and his "news cast"
A man named Sam Hughes put together a small crew of war artists and others and would provide coverage on the current events of the war.+2 +1 0 -1 -2 I would give this a +1 because it was a big progresson in th way we see our info. It was a progression on a not super important area though so i would say +1.
  • Women entering the work force

    Women entering the work force
It started with 1 in every 8 workers being a female. Then, Growers in Niagara's Beamsville, Grimsby and Winona, Vittoria in Norfolk County, and Oakville and Bronte, were the first to agree to hire women for the 1917 season. More than 1,200 women offered their services. +2 +1 0 -1 -2 I would give this a +1 because It was a good start for women entering in more numbers t the workforce, but more change was still to come
  • Caadians of enemies' descent deported from Canada

Caadians of enemies' descent deported from Canada
During this time a law was passed which allowed for the deportation of Canadians with a background of an enemy country without trial. Families were separated and we were losing the trust of our people, as well as putting families with enemy backgrounds in fear. This is a -1 for progression because we are getting rid of potential soldiers or workers for our country. The only reason this isn't a -2 is because it was a precautionary decision not out of hate.
  • The introduction of the Canadian Air Force

The introduction of the Canadian Air Force
Canada did not have its own air force until the final months of the war; however, by the end, almost a quarter of all British flyers were Canadian. Yet prior to this just getting off the ground was a major accomplishment. Then our flying capabilities became even more advanced when we were able to bring weapons on to the planes with us. I would give this a +2 on the progression scale just because of the war abilities we gained with the air force.
  • Women dies due to attack hitting hospital

Women dies due to attack hitting hospital
Women roles were limited in the army during the time of war. Women worked as nurses in hospitals that were dangerous, over crowded and stressful. Eventually something bad was bound to happen, and it did. Nursing sister Katherine MacDonald lost her life at the age of 25 after an enemy air attack hit her hospital. I would say this is a -2 on the progression scale since we should've been putting more effort into what would be taking care of our soldiers as well as the safety of the care givers.
  • The end of WW1

    The end of WW1
The war had come to an end on November 11th 1918. It ended with Canadian Private George Price being killed at 10:58am, 2 mins before the 11am armistice. This is a +2 on the progression scale because the war had come to an end and Canada had done well in their fights, even having the creeping barrage being said to have made them a true nation.
  • The roaring 20's

    The roaring 20's
During the 1920's, after the hard fought battles of WW1, businesses were prospering. There seemed to be no end to this amazing economy. Regular people were making fortunes off of simple investments. This is a +1 on progression because it really helped the improvement of anything Canada needed: Hospitals, schools, etc. The only draw back? This tme didn't last too long with the great depression following in 1929.
