The British Government angry that colonists didn’t want to pay for protection.
This was the 1st time colonist had hostility towards the mother country. -
Stamp Act

The tax was a direct order from England.
Intended on to collect internal tax. -
Quartering Acts
Established to save the British Government money.
Allowed soilders to except room and board from colonists.
Had to be renewed annually by British Parliament. -
Writs of Assistance
Allowed custom officers to search any ship at any time.
Officers could search almost anything with the general search warrent.
Usually used to search for smuggled goods. -
Townshend Acts
Made so colonists would pay certain salaries.
The townshend acts were a series of acts.
Named after Charles Townshend. -
Boston Massacre
It was a street fight against the colonist and British troops.
It started in front of the Customs Office in Boston Massachusetts.
In the end it killed 5 colonists. -
Tea Act
Act of the Parliament of Great Britain.
Made to reduce the large amounts of tea stored up.
Also made to reduce tea smuggling. -
Boston Tea Party
Colinistist boarded 3 ships and dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor.
Referred as the "destruction of the tea."
Was a political protest over the taxation on tea. -

Colonist were greatly outnumbered in soilders. -

This battle happened right after Lexington.
It was the second battle of the war.
British Soilders were given orders to capture and destroy military supplies. -
Fort Ticonderoga
Formally was known as Fort Carillon.
Was built next to the La Chute River.
It was a Star Fort for the French. -
2nd Continental Congress
Met in Philadelphia.
Mainly made for independence.
Some people there for the 2nd Continental Congress were Benjamin Franklin and John Hancock -
Battle of Bunker Hill
British attacked the continental army.
"Don't shoot untill you see the whites of their eyes." The commander of the Patriots said during the battle.
The battle was on 2 hills overlooking the Boston Harbor. -
Common Sense
It was a Pamphlet written by Thomas paine.
It persuaded Colonist to seperate from Britain.
Common Sense had 48 pages. -
Declaration of Independence
This document was written after the American Revolution.
It declared that the colonist were independent from Great Britain.
Written by Thomas Jefferson. -

Was a series of Battles.
Fought for the control of New York City.
Continental Army was under George Washington's Command. -

George Washington and his army crossed the Deleware River.
Was against the Hessians.
At the end of the battle almost every Hessian was captured. -

Washington's army surrounded Cornwallis' army.
Continental Army attacked the British Army.

This battle was a turning point in the war.
Continental Army won.
After the battle the French and Spanish joined the continental army. -

Continental Army was led by George Washington.
British Army was led by Lord Cornwallis.

It stated that the U.S. was independent.
