Britain Declares War on Germany
Around 619,000 or 7% of the Canadian population at the time participated in this war. This event is a 0 since so much change was happening for Canada socially, politically and economically. Although many people died participating in the war, I believe Canada would not be where it is today. -
The Ypres Battle
This historical event is when the Germans released a cloud of poisoned yellow gas at the Canadian soldiers. The gas drifted towards the French-Canadian lines which ended in fatality. 6,000 deaths occurred in this battle but Canada’s soldiers grew a great reputation for holding out so long and they won the battle. This event gets a +1 since the reputation the soldier gained helped make Canada a respectful country and took a step to win the war. -

Women Rights
1919 was a year that impacted Canada socially and politically because women were allowed to hold political office in parliament. Also with women given the right to vote gave hope for better education, healthcare, employment, prejudice and for POC fighting against racism for women. This event is rated a +1 since this leads to great things for women in the future. However, women were still being paid less than men. -

1920s Invention Radio
In the 1920s many inventions were made but specifically the Radio. The Radio was invented in 1922 creating a historical event since it was easier to spread knowledge, awareness and more. This also did not use batteries and many people were surprised by that. The Radio gave Canadians entertainment and helped Canadians bond with the new popular device. I rate the event a +1 since it was a positive change in technology. -
Veteran Indigenous men allowed to vote rightfully
Until 1924 Indigenous men were given the right to vote in federal elections without losing their treaty rights. This event was progress for Canada so I rate it a +1. Giving some Indigenous people the right to vote is a step in progress for Canada but that does not cover up the impact Canada has done to them. -
The start of The Great Depression
The Great Depression is thought to have happened by the Wall Street stock market crash and started in 1929 creating high unemployment rates all over. Immigration and birth rates decreased in this time because of it as well. This event is rated a -2 since it impacted so many people into poverty.
