    Lincolns election was between him and Democrat Stephen A Douglas. The election was split between people who wanted slaves being with Douglas and people that didn't want slaves with Lincoln. No more then two months after Lincoln won Southern States seceded from the US.

    Just a little over a month from the day that Lincoln won the election there was a convention with the southern states in south Carolina. A few days after this convention south Carolina seceded from the union soon after MS FL AL GA LA TX also secede from the states.

    All the states at this point in time held a convention in Montgomery AL in which they created the Confederate States of America. They also started the draft of the Confederate Constitution. A couple weeks later they held yet Another Convention that they selected Jefferson Davis for the role as a Provisional President until they could hold a real election.

    Early on April, 12, 1961 Confederate Force fired upon Fort Sumter in South Carolina. Because South Carolina had already seceded from the Union but the union still occupied Fort Sumter which was surrounded by Confederate troops Resulting in the Confederates Successful victory at Fort Sumter. This being one of the last forts in South Carolina under union control at the time so the Confederates had all of south Carolina under control.

    Admiral David Farragut was with his ships in the gulf passing the Mississippi river opening in New Orleans. Where him and his men demanded the surrender of the harbor and city but after two days a fighting the Confederates fell the The United States Naval forces. This was a big Turing point in the war being able to control the mouth of the Mississippi river.

    The Battle of Antietam was at Antietam Creek in Maryland when the Confederate army was attacking the United States. Confederate Forces were led by General Robert. E. Lee and the United States were led by General George. B. McClellan. This was the most bloodiest single day battle of the war resulting in over 23 thousand Casualties. This Battle was ruled a Victory for the United States Forces stopping the Confederates from invading Maryland.

    The emancipation proclamation was a declaration that free all the slaves the lived in the rebelling southern states. It also allowed black men into the army although they did not get much action they were still accepted into it and given protections and freedom from he government.

Some people see this as the end of the war although there were many other smaller scale battles and conflicts. Before people got the word or accepted that the war was over and that the United States won the war.
