Unit 1.3

  • The impact

Every decision you make has some sort of impact either big or small. Sometimes they can be good and sometimes they can be bad.
  • Risks

“Research by psychologists shows that we pay most attention to the risks that are right in front of us. Risks that won’t appear until later, even if they are huge, just don’t get to us the way a risk we face right now does.” (Making healthy choices 1.3)
  • Short Term Solutions

    Short Term Solutions
According to the text in making healthy decisions it says “Short-term solutions to immediate problems: that is what humans come up with most of the time. And it’s understandable. Our minds evolved to handle immediate problems. Is there a saber-tooth tiger out there? Where are we going to find food today? Who can I trust in my social circle? Does Joe still owe me a favor? That’s what we “grew up” thinking about.” (Unit 1.3)
  • Long Term Impacts

    Long Term Impacts
In the section, Making Healthy Decisions; it explains to us that we have to train ourselves to be able to look at the future. It reads “We must recognize that our brains will look for the short-term gain and will not easily “see” the long-term risk.” (Unit 1.3)
  • Routine

    Routine
Our brains have developed routines for different decisions. This is not good because we don't think about the situation until it becomes a short term or long term problem.
