    First union of working woman
    The women working at the mills had to work thirteen houirs a day with little pay. They went on strike two times, but got denied. The third time they went really big. they created the Lowell Female Labor Reform Association and got politics involved, they only won the shortening of working thirteen hours to ten hours, but they were the first to create a womans union. At this time they could not even vote, so this was a big deal.

    Knights of Labor
    The nights of labor were created to portect smaller unions, and to inspire people to join.This group allowed business owners and farmers. It did not allow bankers and lawyers. There main job was boycotting.
  • Great souothwest railroad strike

    Great souothwest railroad strike
    20,000 knights of labor went on strike against ythe Union specifiec.. They idd not like the hours or safeness. The railroad just hired non union workers, so the strike failed. This affected the disbanning of the knights.
  • Homestead strike

    The skilled workers at the Homstead steel mills were apart of the union called the "Amalgamated Association," which help to create high wages and quality work rules. Manager Carnegie was upset with this. When the three year contract was about to end, be made this really clear. Soon the Amalgamated association set up armed forces. After trying to send in special agents to tear them down from the inside in failing, the coast guard came and cleaned everything up and got rid of the associatioin.

    on October 1st, L. A. times was bombed posibbly by Unions who opposed the close shop policies.twenty one people died. An investigator found it was caused by the same union that coused around a hundred of other bombings.

    There was this factory fire in a ten story building. It killed 146 peole. They could not escape because the factory owner locked the fire escape doors. This accident inspired many people to become apart of unions, in order to ensure work saftey.

    Even after the world war, the condition and hours the steel factory workers were aweful. 350,000 workers went on strike, causing half the steel industry to be shutdown, but because of the public concerns oover immigration and communism, the strike soon failed. there was not another for 15 years.

    This act removed barriers against the activities of laubor unions. They were given "full freedom of Association." This also prohibited "yellow dog contracts." This act was against judges and lawyers.

    This bill helped employees collectively bargain. This bill also enforces standards of conduct against employees. In oder to fully benefit from this when barganing, the majority of employees have to take part.

    This act gives unions tonegotiate with employers over terms of conditions of employment. This gives a person the right to strike depending on the purpose. Helped to make it illegal for employers to keep people from solicitating.
