250,000 Pullman car company and railworkers striked against 12 hour days and poor wages. This shut down trains traffic west of chicago. This ended when the oresident sent in the national guard. -
Ludlow Massacre
1200 coal miners went on strike against their employer John D Rockefeller and they built a tent community close to the mine. The strike lead to the National Guard coming in and several people were killed -

When jobs became hard to come by it made life a ton harder. and those that had jobs worked in awful conditions. -
