The Lowell, Mass. textile mills were admired widely. But for the young women who worked the mills, it was a living hell. This led to the women of these textile mills creating a union. -

The Haymarket Square Riot was the aftermath of a bombing in Haymarket Square during a labor demonstration. It started out peaceful and ended up violent when an unknown party threw a bomb at the police. -
(Strike 3) Great Southwest Railroad Strike
200,000 railroad workers went on strike due to unsafe working conditions, unfair wages and unfair hours. It failed due to the hiring of non-union workers and violence/scare tactics. -
(Law 3) Sherman Antitrust Act
This law forbade any "restraint of commerce" across state lines, and courts ruled that union strikes and boycotts were covered by the law. -
(Global Event 1) The Battle of Cripple Creek
The town of Cripple Creek was found to have tons of Gold. This lead to a boom of miners in Cripple Creek. The boom of miners lead to a boom of strong unions. -
(Strike 4) Great Anthracite Coal Strike
The United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) went on strike and threatened to create an energy crisis. They were striving for better wages and better working conditions. They ended up with a 10 percent raise. -
(Strike 1) Ludlow Massacre
The Ludlow Massacre was a shooting by the National Guard on a campground of 1,200 miners that were striking. -

The Fair Labor Standards Act put in place a minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and child labor laws. -
