    Civil War
    The civil war was the only war fought on american soil, and was a fight between the upper states and the lover states. The labor unions were that jobs became more popular in the military but less in the community. The military was big for both sides.
  • Great Southwest Railroad Strike

    Great Southwest Railroad Strike
    It relates to labor unions because hundreds of thousands of workers across five states refused to work, citing unsafe conditions and unfair hours and pay. People back then were not happy with the the hours they worked and got very little money for those long hours. If people got what they wanted then they wouldnt be out striking and not getting work done.
  • Sherman Antitrust Act

    Sherman Antitrust Act
    This act was the first major piece of legislation that affected labor unions. It changed the way we look at labor unions today. The people changed the enviornment of where people work, and they got people more money for their families.
  • Homestead Strike

    Homestead Strike
    In this strike, the Carnegie Steel Company was against the nation’s strongest trade union, the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers. They were fighting for better working conditions. There were many pinkertons that were injured or killed because of this strike. At the end Carnegie Company got to work in the better conditions.
  • The Pullman Strike

    The Pullman Strike
    This strike was about the Pullman Palace Car Company, and their worker unsatisfied about having 12 hour work days and experiencing wage cuts because of the economy back then. The labor unions are similar to this because they wanted more money for the hard hours that they work for. If the workers dont get the money for the right amount of hours then there will be no company.
  • Great Anthracite Coal Strike

    Great Anthracite Coal Strike
    The United Mine Workers of America began a strike that threatened to create an energy crisis. The labor movement in this strike was to find better conditions to work in. If a worker cant work in a good environment then they will not get the job done. Another in that they were looking for better pay.
  • World War 1

    This was the first war to bring the world into a huge fight. In the United States, labor unions were to create money and jobs for the military to fight the other countries and win the war. They were good paying jobs because they were in need on military people.
  • Great Depression

    Great Depression
    The Great Depression had to deal with the economy almost shutting down completely. It relates to the labor unions because peoplee were looking for jobs to support their familys and themselves. Peoples money all went away because all of the banks closed. Almost everybody in the United States was out of work and needed help.
  • Wagner Act

    Wagner Act
    This act was to garuntee basic rights to of private sector employees to organize into trade unions, engage in collective bargaining for better terms and conditions at work. The labor unions are to get better conditions to work in and get people more money.
  • World War 2

    World War 2
    World War 2 was a world crisis that had the world on edge for the sencond time. There were many labor unions like getting more jobs in the military to help with planes and explosive material. They would get good money for the work they put in. It got the US out of the great depression.
  • Taft-Hartley Act

    Taft-Hartley Act
    This act relates to the labor unions because it restricts the activities and power of labor unions. It shows that people would get lower benefits for working harder for less money and people wanted the president to veto the bill so it would become law. People would become mad after it.
