    Kiwa'lao was born on 1760. He then died on July 1782. Kiwa'lao was a succesor of King Kamehameha. Kiwa'lao's death was important because his death was the reason why Hawaii turned into chaos.
  • The attack of Maui

    The attack of Maui
    Once Kahekili died in 1794, it was the right time to conquer Maui.Kamehameha came there with a fleet of 960 canoes, 20 foreign ships, and 16,000 men. In february 1795, he started his attack. He then conquered Moloka'i, Lana'i, and Maui. After his conquer, Kamehameha then rested on Moloka'i and planned for his next attack.
  • The battle of Nu'uanu

    The battle of Nu'uanu
    In april 1795, Kamehameha and his men then sailed to O'ahu. To start this battle they landed from Wai'alae to Waikiki. After landing on Waikiki they fought their way up to NU'uanu Valley. When fighting, some O'ahu warriors fell of Pali. Chief of O'ahu then was captured after escaping a few months later. The battle of Nu'uanu was important because it was famous for the findings of most of the O'ahu warriors.

    King Kamehameha rules Hawaii

    King Kamehameha ruled the islands for about 20 years. The only islands he didn't rule were Kauai and Ni"ihau because of weather not letting them into battling those islands. On the year 1819; thats when King Kamehameha dies. He died when he got very ill. Even though they said a human acrifice will have to be made, Kamehameha refuses and says "The men are kapu for the king." Kamehameha's last words were "Endless is the good that I have given you to joy."

    Instead of going back to they're country, the missionaries asked to stay in Hawaii. They then got the approval by the king.

    The sandalwood trade began by 1812. It was called the sandalwood because they traded with sandalwood instead of money. The sandalwood trade made a huge change because now everyone has new clothing. The only disadvantage was diseases like the flu or cold. Common diseases are disadvantages because islanders weren't common to this. In addition, the sandalwood trade ended because of it.

    Liholiho's reign was short. It was the time of change and uncertainty. Once LIholiho was King Kamehameha II, the Kapu was then weakening. Fatal things happened to hawaii. For example, a person calld Kamakau, pointed out things like infanticide (the killing of unwanted babies), the slaughter of women and children, and other fatal moments. Meanwhile, Liholiho had his Journey to London. After landing to London He then catches an illness called measles, which afterwards he died.

    Ka'ahumanu was born on march 17, 1768. When Kemehameha died, her son Liholiho, he took the title of Kamehameha II and Ka'ahumanu pronounce herself as kuhina nui. She was Kuhina nui because of how powerful she was. When Liholiho's wife made Liholiho to change the Kapu system Ka'ahumanu made a meeting to people who wanted the Kapu system to be existing and people who didn't. It was a bad idea because it then made a huge war. In the end led her dead and Liholiho pronouncing that the Kapu has end

    The kapu was a rule that Kamehameha had made in order to rule Hawaii. After Kamehameha's death his son, Liholiho rule the kingdom. The end of Kapu started when women from Hawaiians started breaking kapu like eating pork or shark and men and women eating together. After seeing this happen, hawaiians started believing that the kapu didn't effect the gods. So, when Liholiho was being announced as Kamehameha II, a girl called Ka'ahumanu wanted the Kapu to end due to thinking that it will make her-

    -stronger than LIholiho. So she attempts to convince LIholiho by making him eat with her.After Hawaiians saw this happening, they all thaught that the kapu was ended. Afterwards, a war happen between the people who wanted the kapu to end the people who didnt. In the end, the poeple who wanted it to end won the battle. After announcing that the kapu ended, Liholiho or Kamehameha II, ordered his men to destroy anything that has to do with the Kapu and gods.

    The whaling trade was a dangerous kind of trade. It depended on luck and the price change for whale oil. The most dangerous thing about the trade was the diseases that seamen had brought to the island. Sailors was then fined because of it. Some other violent stuff include carrying dangerous weapon, breaking sabbath, being drunk, fighting, and law breaking. After all of this violent was happening, there was civil war. Civil war actually changed and ended whaling.

    The first sugar plantation begn in 1835. It started when 3 New Englanders had a leased from Kamehameha III. The leased gave them a mill site, waterfall for power, and the right to build a road. Some problems they had was they had no workers, needed more money, and better mill rollers. In the end, they were successful to make houses for his workers, 25-acres of cane, thousands of coffee and trees, and forty-eight taro patches.

    The first successful sugar plantation was the Koloa plantation. It all started in 1835. It was when three New Englanders made a lease from Kamehameha III for 980-acre tract of land in Koloa, Kauai for 50 years. Which is the reason why its called the Koloa Plantation. It gave them was a waterfull of power, a mill site, and the right to build a road. The only problem was that they needed workers, more money to pay them, and better mill rollers.

Foreigners thought it was a good idea because of their sugar plantation. The first Mahele was signed on January 1848 and in six weeks later their sugar plantation was a success. Other mahele or divisions of land was recorded in the Mahele book.
