Italy wanted to get all the italian teritories it percieved as being under foreign control. They didn't get all of the land that they were promised after WW1 either, only bits and pieces. -

Growing Italian feelings of patriotism encouraged newspaper journalist Benito Mussolini to establish a political party, commonly referred to as the Fasci. It gained little support at first, but then gained widespread support by attacking socialists. -
The Fascist Party join the coalition government
Mussolini gained respectability when he was aked to be a member of the ruling government coalition. -
Fascist Uprising
Mussolini planned a Fascist uprising to take control of the government by force. Even though the uprising never took place, the prime-minister and his governemnt resigned as a result of this threat. The king then asked mussolini to form a new government. -

Through a series of new laws, the fasci made a single-party state that got rid of independent political parties and trade unions. They curbed the power of the press and silenced the opposition. -
Mare nostrum
Nationalist feelings grew as Mussolini orchestrated the capture of several Greek islands and encouraged irredentism among people living on the islans of Malta and Corsica.Mussolini referred to the Mediterranean sea as Mare nostrum (Our sea). -
Invasion of Ethiopia
Italy invaded Ethiopia which was poorly equipt. At this time Mussolini was at the peak of his power. -
Alliance with Nazi Germany
Italy entered the second world war on the side of Nazi Germany but suffered many humiliating defeats by allied forces.
