Trying to flee Mariupol
When the Russian invasion of Ukraine was in full swing, this family was living in the city of Mariupol which was almost invaded by Russian troops. Around this time, it was only a matter of days before the city would be completely demolished, forcing the family to move. They decided to try and emigrate to Canada because they knew that there are far more opportunities and freedom here. At this point, the family tried to flee but were stopped by Russian forces and sent to Russia. -
Taganrog, Russia
At this point, the family was sent to Taganrog, a city in Russia. From there, the troops were wanting to put Dehtiarov and his family in the city of Novosibirsk, Siberia. If they were to move to Siberia, this would make their goal of reaching Canada far lower. Thankfully, the family had relatives in Russia who were able to give them enough money to buy a ticket to Estonia. -

Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania
After a long journey, Dehtiarov and his family were able to make it to Estonia. Like many other stories, trying to get from one country to another was a major struggle for them, especially escaping from Russia. At this point, they had made it out from most of the danger. From there, they moved to Latvia and then to Lithuania before making their way to Warsaw, Poland. -

Once the family had made it to Warsaw, this gave them a much easier chance to catch a flight into Winnipeg. After all of this time, they'd eventually move to their dream country, Canada. Eventually, they made their way to the city of Winnipeg where they were then free and able to start their new lives. -

Once the family had made it to Winnipeg, they were able to find a place to stay. Later this week, they are going to move to Calgary because they will be supported by a new family who will provide them with enough money and shelter to get them on their feet. So far, they have been really happy with the country because of all of the opportunities available and the freedom that has been given to them. In this day in age, we should help the people who are struggling and make immigration easier.
