This was the first time Vladimir Putin served as president of Russia. His political party is United Russia. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, Putin served the Soviet military. He served from 1975 to the collapse in 1991. -

The Russo-Georgian War was an armed conflict between Georgia, the Russian Federation, and the Russian-backed self-proclaimed breakaway republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. -
