    The Cold Wars were seen as a competition to the U.S. and U.S.S.R. They both wanted to see who could launch their satellite first. Therefore being a race to be the first to space, the U.S.S.R got a spacecraft to space first whereas the U.S. had the first people on the moon.
  • Taiwan Crisis

    In March 1955, President Eisenhower publicly threatened to launch nuclear strikes against China.
  • The founding Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)

    The founding Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)
    OPEC was founded in 1960 so they could work together to set pricing for their oil. The agreement helped them stop competing and guide their future decisions in regards to the oil. It helped them all come together and agree after the cold war.

    Powers and his U-2 plane
    When the U.S was interested in the success of Russia they sent spies. They got shot down and only the pilot and plane survived. The U.S. tried to deny it was their plane but due to the overwhelming amount of evidence the Soviet Union used this to call the U.S. sneaky and untrustworthy.

    The Berlin Wall served as a barrier on the emigration of East Germans looking to live outside of a communist nation.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was when Russia was giving Cuba nuclear weapons so the U.S. intercepted them because they wanted to stop the missiles from being misused. Thus almost starting nuclear war.

    The Fall of Saigon ended the Vietnam War. South Vietnam surrendered and the last American troupes and some South Vietnamese were airlifted out.

    The first G8 Summit was called the G6 Summit. France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Great Britain and the United States to talk about resolving differences. One of the main goals was to discuss trade.
