  • The Cotton Gin was Invented

    This made producing cotton a lot easier, which made the southern states effectively change their plantations from tobacco to cotton.
  • The US Outlawed The African Slave Trade

    Domestic trade was still allowed, and after this was passed, the domestic slave rade boomed.
  • The Missouri Compromise

    This was an agreement that said that Missouri would be a slave state, Maine would be a free state, and all the western territories north of Missouri’s southern border would be free states.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner and a group of about 75 enslaved people killed about 55 white people in two days.
  • The Kansas- Nebraska Act

    The Kansas- Nebraska Act repealed the Missouri Compromise and added two territories.
  • John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry

    22 abolitionists, including 5 African American men and three of John Brown’s sons, took control of a federal arsenal. 10 of these men died, including Brown.
