  • Proclamation of Neutrailty issued

    The Proclamation of Neutrality was issued by President George Washington. The announcement declared the United States as a neutral party to the conflict between Great Britain and France. The announcement also stated that any American that provided any assistance will face legal proceedings.
  • XYZ Affairs

    XYZ Affairs
    In 1798 President John Adams issued a new foreign policy. It was an effort to diffuse the tensions between the United States and France. Two American diplomats were sent to France to meet with three agents. Three agents (called "X", "Y", and "Z") were sent by the French minister to demand a payment before they would agree to meet with Americans. The United States saw this as bribery.

  • Louisana Purchase made

    President Jefferson bought the Louisana Territory from the Napoleon of France. It was a purchase that doubled the size of America.

    The Embargo Act stopped U.S. trade with other nations. President Jefferson saw this as an attempt to avoid international problems. This backfired and caused the American people to suffer.

    The Britsh had a habit of taking American sailors off their ships and forcing them into the British Navy Service. This caused a major war to outbreak between the United States and Great Britain.

    The Treaty of Ghent was signed by American and British representatives in Ghent, Belgium, ending the war of 1812.
  • Monroe Doctrine issued

    The Monroe Doctrine stated that the U.S. wouldn't interfere in European colonies that were in the western hemisphere and there would no longer be any further colonization in the western hemisphere.
