  • French & Indian War

    French & Indian War
    The French and Indian war was between the british and french. They were fighting to gain control of land. The french were also allied with the indians. The war went on for multiple years and ended in 1763 with a peace treaty between the french and british. In the treaty they gave Canada to the british. The war was an imprtant event because Great Britian expanded their american empire.

    The Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation kept the native americans and settlers from killing eachother, It drew a line down the appalation mountains telling settlers how far west they could settle west. Although the settlers were already going over the mountains. This was important becuase this order suggested that the king is becoming a tyrann.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Stamp Act of 1765
    This act was to pay of britans larger debt from the French and Indian War. The king proposed a sct called the stamp act, this act required colonist to buy a stamp for every piece of paper they used. The higher taxes upset the colonist in many ways. They argued parliment has no right to tax them. The colonists went around yelling "no taxation without representation". This was an important event because they were getting overtaxed, and they thought it was unfair.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre happend becuase many patriots were mad at the british becuase there were laws that they were unhappy with. For many mounths trouble was brewing in Boston. Troops were not allowed to fire upon the patriots. The massacre happend because a noisy mob began throwing rocks and ice at the troops. When the mob was drawing closer, a patriot knocked over a british soldier. The soldier fired in panic. This was important because it started a spark between the british and patriots.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party began when the king put a tax on tea. This tax lowerd taxes on the british tea, but raised the taxes on the PATRIOTS. Angry PATRIOTS kept the boats from unloading the cheaper tea. Then the sons of liberty decided to unloaded the tea by throwing it overboard, they were dressed as mohawk indians. This was an important event in history becuase it showed acts of rebellion against the british tax.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts were not for money, but to show the colonists that britian was in control. These acts were designed to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. The first law closed Boston Harbor to all shipping until the ruined tea was paid for. The second law was placed to keep the Massachusetts government under control. The colonists did not give in, they said they would rather abanndoned their city in flames. This was important becuase the british was losing control.
  • First Continental Congress

    In Philidaplphia, about 50 leaders from 12 colonies met to discuss what they would do about the british. Many delegates were still loyal to the british government. Although they had differences, they sent a respectful message to king George. The message urged the king to consider their complaints and to recognize their rights. This was importanst becuase the colonists were trying to restore their friendship with the king.
  • Second Continental Cogress

    The second continental congress met in Philadelphia. This time they were discussing who should lead the army into battle. John Adams proposed that they make a CONTINENTAL ARMY. He nominated GEORGE WASHINGTON to be the general. All the delegates agreed that Washington should be the general of the continental army.

    JOHN LOCKE wrote a paper expresing his beliefs of natural rights. In the paper he said that all people deserve to be treated equal and have the same rights. At this point the colonists new that they had to declair there independence. The task of writing the decleration was put in the hands of THOMAS JEFFERSON.

    In the decleration he said that there natural rights have been violated and that the king has comited many crimes, and he concluded it by saying that the ties with brittan have been broken. This is an important event in history because it was when the colonists declared their independence.

    The declaration of independence was when the colonists declaired there independence. The OLIVE BRANCH PATITION was a letter sent to the KING GEORGE THE III asking him to end the quarrel against them. He denide it and stated that the colonists where in full rebelion. Some colonists did not think they should be independent, and to change there mindes THOMAS PAINE wrote a peice called COMMON SENSE this article told the people that under british control they have suffered.

    The patriots started the war with a week postition, not very orginized and not prepared or trained. The LOYALIST on the other hand were well trained, good position, and lots of troops. George Washington was decided to be leader at the second continental congress. He lead the patriots into battle, even when they were outnumbered. The conditions were very brutal, almost everyone was sick. After Britian almost wins, the patriots almost lose all hope.

    Since bringing the states together was a very difficult task, a new plan of government came out called the Articles of Confederation. They created this "friendship" between the states. It says that each state has its sovereignty, freedom, and independence. This document also gave congress important powers. They made sure that these powers were limited. This document was important because it started the government with limited powers.

    Many battlees took place along the course of this war. Many battles and troops were lost for the patriots. In the end they signed a treaty of peace between the United States of America and Great Britian. This war had a big impact on the rest of the world too. This war was important to history becuase it settled desputes between the countries.

    This Treaty of Paris was an agreement between the United States of America and Great Britian. The treaty had three important parts. Great Britian agreed to see America as an independent country. Then Britian gave up all the lands between the atlantic ocean and the mississippi. Last the USA agreed to return all rights and propety taken from britian during the war. This was important because America got Britian out of the country and got their land back.

    Shay's rebellion was a cause to the large debt the new nation had. the rebbelion took place when shay and a bunch of farmers shut down coart houses to keep judges from taking there farms. Then they marched to the nations arsonal seiz weapons. this is an important event in history because it had congress reconsider the state of the nation.

    This law seperated the Northwest Territory into smaller portions. It said that each state would have one govenor. If a territory had over 5,000 males they could have their own legislature. If the population reached 60,000 it could apply a congress to become a state. This law also included a list of their rights. This was important becuase it helped shpae America.

  • Constitutional Convention

    The Constitutional Convention was when they disscussedand wrote the constituion. Many of the delegates from the 12 states came to write the constitutution. The most prepared person was James Madison, he adressed the convention more than 200 times. THE GREAT COMPROMISE was a compromise between the New Jersey plan and the Virgina Plan on how the government should be formed. THE THREE FIFTHS COMPROMISE said that each slave was counted as 3/5 of a person when counting the population.
