Proclamation of 1763
King George III issued the proclamation of 1763 after the French and Indian war. It also contributed to Great Britian's acquisition of French territory in North America. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament on March 22nd and imposed on all Amercian colonist. The Stamp Act required colonist to pax a tax on all printed paper they used. -
Sons of Liberty
A group of men who opposed Great Britian's Stamp Act and other taxes that Great Britian put on the colonist. -
Quarting Acts
The Quartering acts were where colonist had to house British soldiers against their will. When British soldiers arrived in New York they were unwelcome and were refused housing, British Paraliment suspended the Province of New York's governor and legislature in 1767 and 1769 but never carried it out. The act ended on March 27, 1776. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend acts were a series of acts passed by the paraliment of Great Britian and was for the British colonies in North America. The Townshend Acts began in 1767 and included the Revenue Act, the Indemnity Act, the Commissioners of Customs Act, the Vice Admiralty Court Act, and the New York Restraining Act. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre occured on March 5th, 1770. It was a fight between several british soldiers and a patriotic mob which were throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks at the british soldiers resulting in the soldiers shooting into the mob and killing three people instantly and wounding eight, two who died later. -
Boston Tea Party
Started when a group of massachusetts patriots protested the tax on tea. At midnight three hundred fourty- two chest of tea was raided from three ships and thrown into the harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts was the Patriot name for the series of laws the British Parliament passed as a result of the Boston Tea Party. The laws took away Massachusetts self-government and triggered outrage among the thirteen colonies. -
First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was a convention of delegates from twelve colonies ( Georgias was not present at the time.) They met at Carpenter's hall in philadelphia, Pennsylvania early in the American revolution. It was created because of the Intolerable Acts that Britian had put on them as a result of the Boston Tea Party. -
Declaration of Independence
It was a document stating the thirteen colonies independence from Britian.and was signed by fifty-six delegates of the second continetal congress. -
Battles of Saratoga
The Battles of Saratoga decided the fate of British General John Burgoyne's army. The Battles of Saratoga is considered the turning point in the war. The two battles occured within eighteen days from oneanother and were both fought nine miles away from Saratoga, New York. -
Valley Forge
Valley Forge was the site of a military camp for the American Continental Army. (Led by General George Washington.) Washington was looking for a place for his men to rest and found the Valley Forge. It was the perfect place to stop the British from surprise attacking and it was easily defendable. unfourtunaly over two thousand five hundred soldiers died due to starvation and disese. -
Battle of Yorktown
A war between the French army (Commanded by General George Washington) and the British army (Commanded by Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis) which lasted from September 28th, 1781 to October 19th, 1781. Eventually Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis surrendered and the French won. -
Surrender of Cornwallis
The Surrender of Cornwallis took place at the battle of Yorktown where he became surrounded by state malitia and the French. -
Treaty of Paris 1783
The treaty of Paris was signed on September 3, 1783 which ended the American Revolutionary War. The treaty was signed by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, And John Jay (For America.) Also David Hartley representing the British. The American Congress of the Confederation ratified the Treaty of Paris on January 14,1784.
