  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A group of colonists threw snowballs and rocks at soldiers. British got nervous and a shot was fired. 5 colonists were killed. The event was heavily publicized by the Patriots. Paul Revere drew painting and used it as propaganda to get supporters for the American cause. Was used to show the British as the enemy. British only shot after being harassed.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    When the French and Indians sided together to fight the Colonists and the British. Was caused by the hostility towards the Natives by the colonists. British retaliated and the war lasted around 7 years. The British finally won because they had the military advantage and won over some of the Indian tribes.
  • Pontiac's Rebellion

    Pontiac's Rebellion
    It was in the spring of 1763. It was an uprising led by the Indians near the Great Lakes region. It was after the French and Indian war and the Indians were unhappy by how the colonists and the British rule.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    It amended the existing 1733 Molasses Act. It enforced the Navigation Acts by prohibiting vessels to directly transport cargo to the colonies. Vessels had to unload its cargo in Britain, pay duties and reload its cargo before sailing to the colonies. It added hides, skins, potash and other products to the list of commodities that could be legally exported.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    Intended to raise revenue by requiring the purchase of stamps to be placed on public docs. Violators were to be prosecuted in the vice-admiralty courts. Opposition to the tax was widespread as it represented an infringement on their rights. The Act was nullified in March 1766.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Series of 4 acts of Parliament passed during 1767 +1768, in an attempt to have authority over the colonies. Suspending Act prohibited the NY Assembly from conducting business until it meets financial requirements. Revenue Act imposed direct revenue aimed at regulating trade +raise revenue. 3 act established strict customs }+ additional officers, searchers, spies, coast guard vessels. Indemnity Act allowed to lower tax, made it easier to ship tea to the colonies for a lower price
