    French and Indian War
    France and Britain fight in the new world from 1754-1763. Both sides used the help of the native americans to fight each other. The french and indian war was ended with the treaty of paris in 1763.

    Ended the French and Indian war/ the seven years war. France was forced to give up all of its land in mainland north america. Removed the threat of the french army from the colonies.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Britain gained land from the french after winning the french and indian war. Britain set a boundary that wouldn't allow colonists to go past the appalachian divide and allowed the indians to keep their land. The colonists were angered that they were not given access to the land.
  • Committees of Correspondence

    Committees of Correspondence
    First institution for maintaining communication between the colonies. The committees of correspondence war created before the american revolution when the relationship with britain had began to deteriorate. Colonies were able share information and ideas between each other.
  • Stamp Act

    Direct tax on the colonists that required many printed goods to be produced in london. Colonists were forced to purchase stamps as a form of tax. It was repealed the next year by the act repealing the stamp act 1766.

    British soldiers shot and killed many people while they were being harassed by a mob. Heavily publicised by the patriots to show the unnecessary violence of the british. Helped unite the colonists against the british and helped lead to the war being started.

    Patriots protested against the tea tax imposed by the british king. The patriots dumped 342 cases of tea into the harbor as a form of protest. The british government was extremely mad and sent soldiers to keep watch.

    Punitive laws passed by the british government as punishment for the boston tea party. Mainly targeted at boston because it had become the center for revolution in america. Closed the boston harbor until the lost tea was paid back to britain.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    First battles of the revolutionary war fought on april 19th. British soldiers were on their way to seize a arms cache and the colonists stopped them in their tracks. About 80 men were killed in this battle.
  • Bunker Hill

    This battle was fought on June 17th 1775 in the early part of the revolutionary war. The colonial troops found out that the british were planning to attack and made fortifications to fight. "Dont fire until you see the white of their eyes!"

    Published anonymously at the beginning of the revolution and was an instant sensation. Wrote to encourage the colonists to fight against britain and gain a fair government. Over 500,000 copies of the book were sold before the end of the revolution.

    After tensions rising between the colonies and britain eventually war begun. The declaration was the official break up letter between america and britain. The colonies had officially claimed there independence from britain.
  • Valley Forge

    Continental army's winter camp, home to lots of disease and sickness. The army here was commanded by general george washington. Food supplies were very low and hunger was very prominent.
  • Saratoga

    In the battles of saratoga the british surrendered to the continental army. These battles were a major turning point in the revolutionary war. These battles helped persuade france to help the continental army openly and provide arms.
  • Yorktown

    Yorktown
    The battle of yorktown was a very large battle, general george washington was leading over 17,000 men into the battle. The 9000 british troops were pummeled at yorktown and the continental army won the battle. Considered to be the most important battle of the revolutionary war.
  • Cowpens

    The battle of cowpens was fought in south carolina and was lead by general daniel morgan. Not many men fought in this battle because it was easier to feed small groups of soldiers. British ran into the fire and we greeted with many rifleman and lost the battle.
  • Treat of Paris 1783

    Signed by Americans and British, officially ended the revolutionary war. After the battle of yorktown the british decided is was time to begin peace negotiations with the americans. America and the colonies were officially recognized as their own independent country.
