First permanent English Settlement
Jamestown Virginia, named after King James 1, was established in May of 1607 and was the first permanent English Settlement in America. The spot was chosen since it couldn't be seen from the shoreline and it would be easily defendable. -

The House of Burgesses was the first legislative assembly in America. Established by Governor George Yeardley, the House of Burgesses was in Jamestown Virginia. -

Plymouth is Founded
The Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts, hundreds of miles north of Virginia where they were supposed to land. They founded a colony at Plymouth Rock, named after the port which they sailed out of. -
Indian Massacre of 1622
Chief Opchanacanough and the Powhatan Confederacy tried to rid the Plymouth colony of settlers. Three hundred of the Colonists were killed. -
Maryland Colony
Maryland was founded as a Catholic colony promoting religious tolerance. The subsequent state is named after Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of England's Charles I. -
Rhode Island Colony
The Rhode Island colony was by Roger Williams two years after his banishment from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It was established with the promise of religious and political freedoms. Refugees from the Massachusetts Bay Colony settled there. -

Pequot War
The Pequot War was a war fought between the Pequot Indian tribe and the colonists of Massachusetts, Plymouth, and Saybrook. The war was ended with the Treaty of Hartford. Only two hundred Pequot tribe members remained. -
Burning of Jamestown
Bacon's Rebellion causes the burning of Jamestown. Nathanial Bacon leads the rebellion of planters against Governor Berkeley. Bacon would perish and twenty-three others were executed. -
Pennslyvania Colony is Established
The colony of Pennsylvania was established when William Penn signs a treaty with the Delaware Indians and payed for Pennsylvania lands. The Pennsylvania Colony was a royal Colony that was permitted to give Quakers a place to settle.
