  • Brown Vs. Board of education

    This supreme court case ruled that segregation in schools was illegal and allowed blacks to go to white schools.
  • Montgomery bus boycott

    Started when Rosa parks wouldn't move to the back of the bus and was arrested. After she was arrested the boycott against the buses began and worked very well.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1957

    Eisenhower passes this act in 1957 and it set up civil rights in the legislation part of government, was the first act since reconstruction for blacks.

    Sit-ins

    Across the country blacks were going into diners and sitting at the bar, they were refused food so they sat and took up space so the diner wouldn't make much money.
  • Albany movement

    blacks in Albany did a campaign against racism in Albany and to end segregation in all aspects of life.
  • March on Washington

    A coordinated march on Washington to pressure the government to desegregating the armed forces and other chances for blacks.
  • Civil Rights act of 1964

    banned discrimination against a certain race or religion, big law for foreingers in U.S.
  • Selma-Mountgomery March

    SCLC and other groups organized this march to boycott the resistance by local government on allowing blacks to vote
