Yalta Conference – Feb. 1945
The Big Three Churchill (Great Britain), President Roosevet (USA), & Stalin (Soviet) at the end of World War II agreed that Stalin would join the fight against Japan to end World War II along as the United States & Great Britain allowed the Soviet Union to control Eastern Europe after the War. The Soviet Union agreed to allow free elections in Eastern Europe. United Nations
A group of 50 nations coming together to ensure peace in the world. Each country have a say or vote in any council decision.Security council has power and control over all of them, and also apply economic sanctions or send a peace-keeping military force. -
Truman Doctrine
Was rooted in the idea of containment, limiting communism to the areas already under Soviet control. It outlined a new policy to congress" I believe that it must be the policy of the U.S to support free peoples who are resisting attempted. It would guide the United States for decades. Truman soon sent military and economic aid and advisors to Greece and Turkey so that they could withstand the community threat. -
Marshall Plan
Was to strengthen democratic governments, the united states offered a maasive aid package. The United States funneled fuel and economic assistance to europe to help countries rebuild. Billions of dollars in American aid helped war-shattered Europe recover rapildy.Postwar hunger and povery made Western Europe pean lands fertile ground for communist ideas. -
Berlin Airlift
The western tried to rebuild Germany and stalin blocked it. He block people from getting food and fuel. Stslin tried to force the western allies out of Berlin by sealing off every railroad and highway. The western power responded to the blockade by mounting a round-the-clock airlift. Although West had won , the crisis deepened. -
NATO Pact
The U.s was inhead of it. It was a military alliance between the u.s , Canada, and ten other countries. Members pledged to help one another if any one of them were attacked. It was protection for other countries(each other). -
Korean War
Conflict during the Cold War where the United States & Soviet Union supported different sides sending troops, aid, weapons to help spread their idelogies. This conflict ended in an armistice. -
Vietnam War
U.S sent over 500,000 soldiers to make sure that communsim would not spread throughout this country, however ,was unable to accomplish this goal. Was not popular with many Americans -
Warsaw Pact
Soviet Union had its own military alliance. It included the Soviet Union and seven satellites in Eastern Europe. It was also invoked by the soviets to keep its satellites in order. The soviet Union were communist in the name but dictatorships in practice. -

Was an attempt of the united to overthrow a communist Government that failed. United States attempted to cover up their involvement by making it seem as if the incident was a revolution carried out solely. -

The end of the Cold War
East European countries started becoming independent, and the berlin wall fell. The communism wasn't giving no freedom and the econism system failed. It lasted almost half a century, the much fear nuclear confrontation between the two superpowers never came about, but the end was as clear as any military victory.
