Before the railway the west had very few railways and there were none that connected with the East, which made it very hard to trade and gain population. The railway made the American west easily accessible for trade, business and population.

    John D. Rockefeller started Standard oil and had a near monopoly of the oil business in the US. Standard oil was the largest oil refiner of its time and it’s in history as one of the world’s first and largest multinational corporations. As it grew standard oil controlled almost every aspect of the oil industry.

The invention was very popular and the company got so big they merged with another company and became General Electric co.

    Pure Food & Drug Act and The Meat Inspection Act were passed and was the first significant consumer protection laws. Inspired by the book called “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair the public was horrified with the image of all the meat packing industries. This led to create the food and drug administration and it’s job was to ban mislabeled food and drugs.

    Women had been petitioning the right to vote since the 1800’s but it took them decades to actually accomplish getting their right. They had supporters but they were met with resistance and abuse more often than not. In 1919 they officially gained the right to vote in the form of the 19th amendment.
