May- Parliament tries to end secularist and Islamist conflict by bringing the national election date closer. Parliament approves and amendment that states a president can be elected by popular vote, but the amendment is vetoed by the current president. A bomb blast kills 100 people in Ankara, but the PKK denies responsibility. -

Thousand of protests are held to allow women to wear their headscarves to university, Parliament approve amendments that pave the way for this right. -

Mass protests are held against the government after the decision is made to develop one of the few remaining green spaces in Istanbul, police resort to brutality and two protestors die. -
