  • Lisbon Earthquake

    The 1775 (Mag. 9) earthquake in Lisbon, Portugal, produced a tsunami that, along with the earthquake and resulting fire, killed an estimated 20,000 people. Tsunami waves that crossed the Atlantic Ocean amplified to heights of 7 m (23 ft) or more in the West Indies.
  • Explosion of Krakatoa Volcano

    Occurred in the Sundra Strait between Java and Sumatra that caused the top of the volcano to collapse into the ocean. Produced a giant tsunami that reached 115 ft and destroyed 165 villages and killed more than 36,000 people.
  • Aleutian Earthquake

    This Earthquake occurred in Alaska and was measured with a magnitude of 8.1, it produced a tsunami in the Hawaiian Islands that killed about 160 people.
  • Chile Earthquake

    Magnitude: 9.5, This earthquake triggered a tsunami that killed 61 people in Hawaii after traveling for 15 hours across the Pacific Ocean.
