The development of the Erie Canal connected the ports in New York to Lake Erie. This helped provide a form of transportation through the middle of the United States. The Erie Canal allowed passage for any kind of boat. This marked the economic boom for the steamboat. -

Railroads were a huge innovation that sparked America's transportation. Railroads helped transport people and goods across the country. This helped economically but the only downside to that is the pollution of the environment due to a locomotiveś vast supply of coal. -
Transcontinental Railroad
The transcontinental railroad connected the east and the west. It helped a variety of merchants trade faster and transport people faster. The transcontinental railroad helped with communication along with the development of the telegraph.
