    Congress made a Second National bank and many people opposed it. Maryland attempted to pass a tax to limit the bank's opperations. The cashier of the branch in Maryland took it to court. It went to the supreme court and McCulloh won.

    Was made to settle border disputes between the U.S. and Spain. The U.S, got Florida and Spain was given Texas.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    Was made because of a dispute over wether Missouri should enter as a free or slave state. There was an even number of free and slave states and they didn't want to tip the balance. In the end they admitted Maine as a free state along with making slavery prohibited in any new territories or states formed north of 36° 30' latitude.

    Led from Missouri to Santa Fe New Mexico. It followed an anchient trading rout first used by Native Americans. The trip was dangerous but highly profitable.

    It was an exclusive statement of American policy warning European powers not to interfere with the Americas. This made it so that European Nations could not colonize the Americas any more. It was made because the U.S, had concernes that European countries might try to take over newly independent countries.

    Was a group of westbound settlers led by George Donner and James F. Reed. They ran into many mishaps during the journy and spent the winter of 1846/47 snowbound in the Sierra Nevada. Some may have resorted to Cannablism.

    The year before Jackson was elected a large tariff was placed on iimported cotton goods. Southerners greatly opposed this tariff because it hurt their economy. The tariff added fuel to the sectional differences.

    Stated that since the states formed the National government they should have more power. Supporters of this thought that states should have the right to reject federal laws that they declared unconstitutional. A supporter of this was Vice President Calhoun.

    A period in the 1820's and 30's. During this time democracy spread to more everyday people. They started to have more power in government.

    Texans fought for independance and tried to keep the Alamo from falling. They lasted a while but were eventually defeated.
  • Trail of Tears

    Even though the Cherokee Westernified their culture and the Supreme Court ruled that Georgia couldn't remove them Georgia still did because because gold was found on their lands. Many people died. The march was 800 miles.

    After Mountain Men moved back east their stories made other people go to the west They followed the Oregon trail which was 2,000 miles long and led to Oregon county. People traveled in wagon trains.
