    The Roman Republic was the first collection of Romans as a civilization. The creation of the Romans as a United civilization allows for further development of the Roman people.

    This was a conflict that was started by the plebeians of the Roman Republic. They wanted more political representation, and they were able to win the conflict. By 287 BCE, the plebeian assembly could pass legislation.

    This series of wars earned a large slave population of Carthaginians and political control over the Mediterranean region for the Romans. The victory in all three of the Punic wars by Rome strengthened its military and navy.

    The senate is able to propose legislation

    The senate did not always have this power, which is why this event is so important to the development of the Roman Republic. The Republic’s government was constantly changing, and this is only one of the many examples.

    The Gracchus Brothers

    The Gracchus brothers were able to pass bills to redistribute land to the poorer classes. The youngest brother was able to ally with the equestrian class to attack corruption in the provinces.

    Julius Caesar

    Julius Caesar was one of the great leaders of the Roman Republic. Because of this, his death caused a series of civil wars at the end of the Roman Republic.

    Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon River

    This action by Julius Caesar started the second civil war of the Roman Republic. This civil war weakened the Republic’s government and set up the collapse of the Republic as a whole.

    The Rule of Octavian

    Octavian is coined with the creation of the Roman Empire. He is said to have created the stability and strength the Roman Republic needed to be turned into an empire.

    The Rule of the Roman Empire is split

    When the Roman Empire was split into Eastern and Western halves, the Western side was weakened. This made the fall of the western side of the Empire more inevitable and quicker.

    Germanic tribes attack

    The increasing pressure from the attacks of Germanic tribes significantly weakened the Empire. The massive amount of stress created by loosing many wars to these tribes lead to the fall of the empire.
